Senior Balance Exercises For Fitness Programs

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com

One key ingredient to slimming down is to participate in a fitness program, which begins with  senior balance exercises. Please see   http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Being overweight, indicated by the Body Mass Index, can lead to several health problems including heart failure. For example, obesity not only increases the risk of heart failure, but increased belly fat, combined with an ageing population, can also lead to a significant increase in the risk of heart failure, a study says. The study showed a clear correlation between higher Body Mass Index (BMI), waist circumference and the risk of heart failure. The researchers saw that with every 10 cm increase in waist circumference was linked to a 29 percent higher risk of heart failure from the analyses of 360,000 participants. “Overweight individuals had a 35 percent increased risk of heart failure as compared with normal weight individuals and our findings indicate that overweight should be considered a clear risk factor for heart failure,” said first author Dagfinn Aune from Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Norway. Research showed that a BMI between 25 and 30 kg/m2, which is considered overweight, is also associated with increased risk. A higher waist-to-hip ratio was also correlated with a progressively greater risk of developing heart failure. “Overweight and obesity increase the risk for heart muscle disease, which is an established risk factor for heart failure,” said Aune. “Physical activity and a more plant-based diet with lots of fruits and vegetables and whole grains are important to prevent overweight and obesity,” Aune said. Additionally, starting a physical fitness program with senior balance exercises can help older adults workout safely and avoid a risk of falling.

5 Benefits Of Senior Balance Exercises

Senior Balance Exercises For Staying Steady

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com

With the alarming rate of older individuals falling every year, medical professionals recommend starting senior balance exercises as part of a daily fitness routine. Please see more at  http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Medical statisticians reveal that one in three aging individuals fall every year. That number amounts to about 20 million older folks in America losing their balance and falling every year. Medical researchers have been publishing more and more studies that have shown the benefits of practicing stability and strength exercises to limit the possibility of a fall. As an example, one study aimed to evaluate the effect of a balance training programme, which was based on core components for successful fall prevention in the elderly, on gait and balance of a specific group of diabetic patients. The researcher’s results confirm that gait and balance in these patients can be concurrently improved by a targeted intervention. The patients who were studied in the in the intervention group increased gait velocity, balance, muscle strength and joint mobility, and decreased their fear of falling. These beneficial outcomes were produced by following a regular routine of stability exercises. As a result, medical researchers have been able to define several benefits of making senior balance exercises part of ones daily activities. Five of these benefits include:
1) Increased balance with movement activities
2) Decreased frequency of falling
 3) Decreased fear of falling
4) Improved speed and strength of balance reactions at the feet and ankles
5) Increased mobility leading to greater  involvement in community and family events

Senior Balance Exercises For Better Mobility

Over the past few years, medical researchers have demonstrated the effectiveness of rehearsing senior balance exercises to minimize the possibility of a fall. Fall prevention has become extremely important to medical facilities including hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and community centers that cater to senior citizens. Equilibrium routines can be as basic as standing on one foot ( near a counter or table if you need to hold on). You can build up your time doing this single leg standing routine to holding that position for twenty seconds, repeating three times on each foot. This steadiness routine will help to develop adequate balance reactions at your feet and ankles, promoting good overall balance with all movement activities. No you can practice single leg standing and other senior balance exercises in the comfort of your own home by following along with the direction of a qualified Physical Therapist in the Exercise For Balance DVD.

High vs Low Activity And Senior Balance Exercises

Senior Balance Exercises For Various Activities

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com

Medical researchers are finding that both the amount of activity that older individuals partake in and the inclusion of senior balance exercises can make a difference in the health of those over sixty. Please see  http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Recently, studies have been published that looked at the amount of physical activity older individuals engage in related to their memory capabilities. In the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology, a study was described as having 876 people involved in a project where they reported their amount of daily exercise. Of the group, 90 percent reported light exercise or no exercise. Light exercise could include activities such as walking and yoga. They were placed in the low activity group. The remaining 10 percent reported moderate to high intensity exercise, which could include activities such as running, aerobics, or calisthenics. They were placed in the high activity group. An average of seven years later, each person was given tests of memory and thinking skills and a brain MRI, and five years after that they took the memory and thinking tests again. When looking at people who had no signs of memory and thinking problems at the start of the study, researchers found that those reporting low activity levels showed a greater decline over five years compared to those with high activity levels on tests of how fast they could perform simple tasks and how many words they could remember from a list.  The difference was equal to that of 10 years of aging. As a result, medical providers as well as medical researchers suggest that aging individuals participate in more vigorous physical fitness for optimal health. Furthermore, these medical professionals also encourage that older persons combine their fitness activities with senior balance exercises to maintain stability while working out.

Senior Balance Exercises For High Level Workouts

Value of Fitness And Senior Balance Exercises

Senior Balance Exercises For Healthy Living

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com

More and More, medical researchers are find that older adults who engage in fitness regimes and  senior balance exercises are living healthier and longer lives. Please see  http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Recent publicity shows that by now, most senior citizens know their health and mental abilities are enhanced by exercise. Results of a new study, however, makes a more definitive prediction – older people who do little exercise may see a mental decline that puts them 10 years behind those who do at least a modest amount. The study reported in Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology, points out that exercise has been well established as a way to slow the rate of decline in thinking skills that occurs with aging. To be more specific, the study found, however, that seniors who reported light to no exercise experienced a decline equal to 10 more years of aging as compared to people who reported moderate to intense exercise. “The number of people over the age of 65 in the United States is on the rise, meaning the public health burden of thinking and memory problems will likely grow,” said study author Clinton B. Wright, MD, MS, of the University of Miami in Miami, Fla., and member of the American Academy of Neurology.  “Our study showed that for older people, getting regular exercise may be protective, helping them keep their cognitive abilities longer.” Medical professionals like nurses, physical therapists and doctors agree that aging individuals need to participate in regular physical fitness activities in a safe manner. Performing senior balance exercises along with fitness activities is the key to safe exercising.

Senior Balance Exercises For Vigorous Living

To make the most out of life in later years, be sure to engage in regular fitness routines which include senior balance exercises. Fibromyalgia Pain And Senior Balance Exercises

Senior Balance Exercises For Fibromyalgia Patients

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com

Individuals who suffer with Fibromyalgia have varying degrees of pain which can be helped with a series of fitness and senior balance exercises. Please see  http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals. Symptoms of Fibromyalgia sometimes begin after a physical trauma, surgery, infection or significant psychological stress. In other cases, symptoms gradually accumulate over time with no single triggering event. Women are much more likely to develop fibromyalgia than are men. Many people who have fibromyalgia also have tension headaches, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety and depression. Recently, medical researchers looked into the connections between fitness activities and decreasing complaints of pain for those who suffer with Fibromyalgia. Researchers found that overall higher physical fitness was consistently associated with lower levels of pain, lower pain-related catastrophizing, and higher chronic pain self-efficacy for those diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Furthermore, medical providers such as doctors, nurses and physical therapists who treat patients with Fibromyalgia recommend that they initiate a program of senior balance exercises before commencing a series of fitness regimes to ensure safety with all exercises.

Senior Balance Exercises For Those With Fibromyalgia

to help reduce symptoms of pain for those with Fibromyalgia, medical professionals recommend that they embark on a program of fitness and senior balance exercises. One equilibrium routine that is effective to enhance stability with fitness programs involves standing on one foot and slowly moving the other foot forwards and backwards. This sequence involves a static hold ( the foot you are standing on) combined with a dynamic component ( the foot that is moving forwards and backwards). This steadiness routine can help maximize your stability with other fitness regimes. You can learn this stability exercise and other senior balance exercises by following the instruction of a qualified Physical Therapist in the Exercise For Balance Dvd.

Reducing Depression And Senior Balance Exercises

Start Senior Balance Exercisesbocci ball

For any older adult, starting a fitness program with senior balance exercises can enhance stability and help reduce depression. Please see  http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Unfortunately, depression is common among older individuals as they struggle with isolation, declining health and immobility. Medical researchers, however, have found that exercising three times a week reduces the odds of developing depression by around 16 percent — and for every extra weekly activity session, the risk drops further. In a study conducted as part of a public health research consortium, the UK-based scientists said the relationship they found between depression and exercise points to ways to simultaneously improve both mental and physical health. Leisure time physical activity has a protective effect against depression,” said Snehal Pinto Pereira of University College London’s Institute of Child Health, who led the study. Depression is one of the most common forms of mental illness, affecting more than 350 million people worldwide. Depression is ranked by the World Health Organization as the leading cause of disability globally. Additionally, Chris Power, a UCL professor of epidemiology and public health who also worked on the study, said it added weight to existing evidence suggesting exercise could be used as a treatment for depression as well as boosting physical health. For older adults to exercise safely, healthcare professionals suggest that they begin with senior balance exercises to boost their overall steadiness.

Senior Balance Exercises Help Beat Depression

To minimize depression through increased physical activity, first start a program of  senior balance exercises. One basic equilibrium routine you can rehearse involves standing on one foot for twenty seconds, three times in a row. this single stance stability exercise will enhance your steadiness with all movement activities. You can join in with the single stance routine and other senior balance exercises by following along with the instruction of a qualified Physical Therapist in the Exercise For Balance DVD.

Slowing Alzheimer’s And Senior Balance Exercises

Senior Balance Exercises For Those With Memory Loss

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com

Cognitive changes, whether Dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease, effects millions of Americans and medical researchers are battling back with different treatments, including physical fitness starting with senior balance exercises. Please see   http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now One way medical researchers are fighting against Alzheimer’s Disease is through an exciting new technique of using stem cells. In a first-of-its-kind clinical trial, researchers at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine are using mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in an attempt to slow or reverse the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. The team is aiming to enroll 30 patients who will be tested and observed for cognitive function, memory, quality of life and brain volume over the course of a year. “This is a phase 1 study; we want to prove that it’s safe,” Dr. Bernard Baumel, principal investigator and an assistant professor of neurology at the Miller School of Medicine, told FoxNews.com. “We minimally would like to see that it slows down the progression of the disease.” Baumel and his team began investigating mesenchymal stem cells because of their anti-inflammatory properties and because they have shown the ability to develop into many different types of cells. The cells are also thought to promote neurogenesis, which allows the brain to produce new cells in the hippocampus, which is where new memory forms and Alzheimer’s disease begins. “Mesenchymal stem cells are anti-inflammatory and they promote indigenous stem cells in your body to proliferate,” Baumel said. “They stimulate cell growth and have a lot of attributes that are very advantageous for using them in humans.” Baumel and his team hope to see the mesenchymal stem cells cross the blood brain barrier and help reduce inflammation, stimulate neural stem cells to proliferate and repair damaged areas. In a best case scenario, Baumel said the team would see mesenchymal stem cells remove the brain inflammation associated with Alzheimer’s altogether. In addition to this exciting new research, medical professionals are seeing the many benefits of exercise for those who suffer with cognitive diseases. As we wait for researchers to find better ways to treat Alzheimer’s and Dementia, we can encourage older adults to participate in fitness activities, beginning with senior balance exercises to reduce the possibility of a fall while working out.

Ligament Injury And Balance Exercises

 Balance Exercises For Ligament Sprains

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.com

Ligament injuries can result in more than pain and swelling and may require follow up with strengthening and balance exercises. Please see more at    http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Sprains of ligaments, especially at the knees and ankles, can wreck havoc with mobility, balance and every day activities. Sprains and strains are common injuries that share similar signs and symptoms, but involve different parts of your body. A sprain is a stretching or tearing of ligaments — the tough bands of fibrous tissue that connect two bones together in your joints. The most common location for a sprain is in your ankle. A strain is a stretching or tearing of muscle or tendon. A tendon is a fibrous cord of tissue that connects muscles to bones. Strains often occur in the lower back and in the hamstring muscle in the back of your thigh. Initial treatment for both sprains and strains includes rest, ice, compression and elevation. Mild sprains and strains can be successfully treated at home. Severe sprains and strains sometimes require surgery to repair torn ligaments, muscles or tendons.  To be more specific regarding mobility issues, ankle sprains can result in pain, swelling, weakness, ankle instability and imbalance. Following an ankle sprain, it is essential that you participate in physical therapy routines including strengthening exercises proprioception routines and balance exercises.

Balance Exercises Following An Ankle Sprain

balance exercises are critical to perform after an ankle sprain because the disruption in the ligamentous tissue also inures the fibers and receptors that control balance. In our joints, muscles and ligaments we have specialized sensory receptors that tell our brain how the body is moving. The receptors in the ankles are of utmost importance for balance and allowing the foot to conform to the different surfaces we walk on. As a result, after an ankle injury practicing equilibrium routines ( also called proprioception exercises ) is vital for restoring natural balance reactions and steadiness with movement activities. You can learn which balance exercises to rehearse by following the step by step instruction of a Physical Therapist in the Exercise For Balance DVD.

Get Going On Senior Balance Exercises

By Suzanne Stoke, Physical Therapist @ Exercise For Balance via www.exerciseforbalance.comReady for balance exercises...

The benefits of older individuals participating in physical activity and senior balance exercises is well known, however, motivating our older loved ones and patients can be a challenge. Please see   http://www.exerciseforbalance.com/buy-now Medical experts like doctors, nurses and physical therapists have shown that the health benefits of regular physical activity are clear and are relevant at any age. However, declining activity rates in older age coupled with physiological aging and disease make exercise that much more important for older adults. Regular physical activity can help older persons reduce their risk of chronic disease, manage illnesses they already have, function better physically and mentally, avoid injuries such as falls, and live longer independently. Evidence for the benefits of exercise for older adults has been accumulating for quite some time and the question of whether or not exercise is beneficial has largely been answered. A more relevant question now is how do we effectively motivate adults to change their exercise behaviors and stay active as they age? One avenue to motivate those in the again population to exercise is to make the opportunity for those senior citizens easy and accessible.
